Longing For Home

Longing for Home captures the development of a dance performance against the historical and artistic heritage of the Danube Swabians, a German-speaking minority spread across Romania, Serbia and Hungary. The artist and choreographer Silke Grabinger - herself of Danube Swabian descent - confronted the difficult and complex past of her ancestors by visiting the regions of Vojvodina (in Serbia), Banat (divided between Serbia, Romania and Hungary), and Bačka (in Serbia and Hungary) over several years. She has transformed these personal experiences and aspects of Danube Swabian cultural, historical and social fabric into a sensitive contemporary choreography. Director Meinrad Hofer documents Grabinger’s and her company’s performances and rehearsals in south-eastern Europe and weaves them into a rich texture, including original interviews with Danube Swabians still living there as well as in the Austrian diaspora. Through this process, questions about the complex history of German minorities who were instrumentalised by Hitler and the conscious and unconscious omissions therein arise. Was the history of one’s ancestors passed on as a history of victims or of perpetrators? What was left out and what was talked about? How do family secrets or open narratives effect second- and third-generation Danube Swabians? This film offers a nuanced and rhythmic portrait of the dance movements in and out of original and diasporic cultures and histories, all reinterpreted through an outstandingly original, intercultural dance performance.

En Lumière

En Lumière is a experimental short film that shows layers of  a personality by the usage of different light qualities. The way how light meets the facial surface activates a spectrum of a personality. Here, the blank face of the protagonist is itself the projection of light, the light acts as a shaping element, the shadow as abstracting. The viewer can watch this light transforms the process, but only by these transformations in "slow motion" you can visualize this immense "personality contrasts". The visuality of the film is accompanied by emotional abstract sounds of composer Katharina Klement.

The message of the film was included in a story. The Actor (James Bibari) sitting in the vehicle and sees himself on the wet road, he is irritated, it moves him to get out and look. He follows himself, passes through a door to a mirror in which he finds himself. The light moves circularly, he is fascinated by the causes of different feelings the light on the face. He decides to move on and dive further into the space of light, in his own psyche. In the last shot he seated back in the car, it must have been a dream, he laughs.
